IGG is supported in what we do by a Vision and Mission Statement.
A future which is sustainable, diverse and equal, where girls and young women are empowered to advocate and lead the way.
The Mission of the Irish Girl Guides is to enable girls and young women to develop to their fullest potential as responsible citizens of the world.
The Irish Girl Guides believes in providing a single-sex environment that will help girls develop to their fullest potential. We believe that girls benefit for a programme facilitated by women who will act as role models and encourage them to challenge themselves and follow their dreams. Through participation in the Irish Girl Guides, girls experience leadership from a young age via our programme and structures. Girls take on various roles and use the skills and knowledge gained throughout their lives. This develops girls’ confidence, improves self-esteem and offers a unique opportunity to grow and develop as responsible citizens of the world.
Our members complete a wide range of activities that enable them to:
What We Do
Members of the Irish Girl Guides (IGG) follow a non-formal educational programme called the Journey Programme which enables each person to embark on a developmental journey full of fun, adventure and challenge.
The Journey Programme incorporates all we do and is designed to ensure that we achieve our mission “to enable girls and young women to develop to their fullest potential as responsible citizens of the world.”
The Journey Programme is designed to be progressive so that each girl continues to learn and develop along the way. Since a girl can become a member of the Irish Girl Guides at any time, the programme is designed to meet the needs of both the girls who start at a young age as well as those who join along the way.
Members of the Irish Girl Guides (IGG) follow a non-formal educational programme called the Journey Programme which enables each person to embark on a developmental journey full of fun, adventure and challenge.
For Senior Branch members, working through the Journey Programme also enables them to achieve their Gaisce – The President’s Award.
The role of the Leader is to mentor and support the girls along their Guiding journey. However, Leaders also travel along their own journey with various opportunities and qualifications to work towards.
What We Do
A Unit is group of approximately 20-30 girls from the one age bracket (Branch) who meet in a local community on a weekly basis. There are over 500 Units spread across every county in Ireland. Units are run by a team of Leaders who have undertaken the relevant screening and training and there is a support network of volunteers and staff available to help each volunteer on her leadership journey.
Ladybirds are superheroes, gaining powers as they collect their Discover, Grow and Fly Journey badges.
Brownies are detectives, discovering new things about themselves and the world they live in.
Guides develop their independence, self-confidence, teamwork and leadership skills.
Guiding is here to be exactly what each girl wants it to be, and it’s an experience that is all about what you want to make it.
