When you hear the words “Honorary Ambassador”, you might picture someone attending an occasional event, giving a speech or appearing in a photograph. But at Irish Girl Guides, the role is about much more than that.
Our Honorary Ambassador is someone who believes in the potential of girls and young women and is willing to use their experience, voice and influence to help champion that potential. So, what does an Irish Girl Guides Ambassador actually do?
Inspiring the next generation
One of the most important parts of the Ambassador role is being a positive and inspiring role model for girls in the IGG community.
Our members need to see women who have taken different paths, developed their skills, overcome challenges and built careers, businesses and lives on their own terms.
An Ambassador can help girls see what might be possible for them.
It is not about telling girls who they should become. It is about helping them believe that they can become whoever they want to be.
Championing girls’ empowerment
The Ambassador also promotes and advocates for the values at the heart of Guiding, including girls’ empowerment and leadership opportunities for young women.
This is particularly important because the skills girls develop through Guiding can stay with them throughout their lives, including confidence, teamwork, resilience, communication, decision-making and leadership.
These are skills that can make a difference at school, at work, in communities and in everyday life.
Connecting with our members
Being an Ambassador is also about connecting with the people who make the organisation what it is.
The role includes attending key events and National and community activities, engaging with local IGG volunteers and encouraging others to get involved in Guiding. That connection matters.
After all, Guiding is a community. It is built by girls, young women and volunteer Leaders who show up, try new things, support one another and create opportunities together.
Being a voice for Guiding
At its heart, the Ambassador helps raise the profile of Irish Girl Guides.
Our Ambassador is a public face for the organisation and represents the values of Guiding to audiences both across Ireland and internationally.
That means helping more people understand what Guiding offers girls and young women and why it continues to matter.
With Irish Girl Guides, our members learn by doing, take on challenges, develop practical skills, build friendships, gain confidence and learn to lead.
An Ambassador can help bring that story to new audiences.
Supporting causes that matter
Our Ambassador also has the opportunity to champion campaigns that are meaningful to them and relevant to Irish Girl Guides.
This gives the role a personal dimension.
An Ambassador brings their own experience, interests and areas of expertise to the role, while connecting those strengths with the mission and values of IGG.
Meet our new Honorary Ambassador: Caroline Reidy
We are delighted that Caroline Reidy is taking on the role of Irish Girl Guides Honorary Ambassador.
Caroline brings considerable experience in HR, employment law, leadership and people development. She is passionate about helping people recognise their strengths and maximise their potential.
She mentors female entrepreneurs and has a particular interest in supporting women to develop their skills and businesses.
Caroline is also an author. Her book, The Art of Asking the Right Questions, is a toolkit for people managers focused on maximising the talent of their people. She has also written a children’s book exploring diversity, emotional intelligence and inclusion.
Her experience and passion for helping people reach their potential make her a wonderful fit for the values of Irish Girl Guides.

A two-year journey
The IGG Honorary Ambassador serves a two-year term and works closely with IGG staff, volunteers and the wider community. The Ambassador is presented by the President, Deirdre Henley, at the Annual General Meeting.
For Caroline, that journey begins with her introduction at the 2026 AGM. For us, it is an opportunity to welcome a new voice, a new perspective and someone who shares our belief that everyone should have the opportunity to discover and develop their potential.
“We are delighted to welcome Caroline as our new Honorary Ambassador,” said Deirdre Henley, President of Irish Girl Guides. “We are honoured to have someone with Caroline’s experience, energy and commitment to supporting women and young people joining Irish Girl Guides. We know there is a great deal we can learn from her experience as an independent and powerful woman, and we look forward to the journey ahead.”
Why the role matters
Irish Girl Guides has been supporting girls and young women since 1911. Today, nearly 8,000 members across Ireland take part in a movement supported by more than 1,400 volunteer Leaders. Our ambition remains simple but powerful: to enable girls and young women to develop their fullest potential as responsible citizens of the world.
Our Ambassador helps us tell that story and, most importantly, they help remind girls and young women that their voices, ideas and ambitions matter. We are delighted to have Caroline Reidy joining us on this journey. Welcome Caroline, we can’t wait to see what comes next.
