What is Senior Branch?

Senior branch is for girls and young women aged 14 – 30 years and offers the opportunity to experience adventure, enjoy international events, develop self-confidence and grow in independence. Girls do not have to have been a Ladybird, Brownie or Guide to join Senior Branch  

 

Guiding is here to be exactly what each girl wants it to be, and it’s an experience that is all about what you want to make it. The Senior Branch programme allows girls to be who they want to be, try new activities and take up new challenges.

Programme

There are three levels of awards within the Gaisce Award system; Bronze, Silver and Gold.  These link with the overall Senior Branch Awards of Bronze Star, Silver Moon and Golden Sun respectively.  Once a Senior Branch member has completed her overall Senior Branch Award, she will also have completed the corresponding Gaisce Award.  If a Senior Branch member has completed her Gaisce Award outside of Guiding, she will be recognised for any Gaisce components already completed.

What are the benefits of Senior Branch?

The programme is completely girl led and centered on gaining skills necessary to run their own meetings and the responsibility that goes with that. 

 

As a member of Senior Branch each girl embarks on a journey that will help them to: 

  • Grow in independence
  • Develop organisational skills
  • Develop leadership skills
  • Try new activities

The senior Branch Journey Programme opens up and allows each member to be an inventor of her own programme. There are three pathways to choose form and the girl/young woman can gain awards, pins and badges as she progresses.  

The Senior Branch Programme has a partnership with Gaisce (The Presidents Award)  to ensure a process that allows our members to complete their Gaisce Award while also completing their Senior Branch Journey Programme.  

How to get involved?

Members of Senior Branch may be involved in a number of ways

  • By joining a Senior Branch unit
  • By joining a Ladybird / Brownie / Guide Unit as a leader
  • By doing both of the above options

What to do next?

  • Go to our unit locator to see whether there is a unit in your town or county
  • Use our “Parent Enquiry Form” to send a request to join
  • The request will be sent to the relevant Regional Development Officer
  • The unit leader will contact you as you stated in your preference on the form
  • Your daughter attends her first Senior Branch meeting and her journey commence
