Partnerships and Fundraising
Information

Irish Girl Guides has a long history of fundraising for other charities and for its own needs. This varies from national campaigns to promotions within our volunteers’ magazine Trefoil News to numerous events between individual Units and their local charitable causes.

A positive relationship with our main donors has helped with consistent funding supports. Due to our standing as a trustworthy and efficient organisation, Irish Girl Guides has been a beneficiary of several bequests and legacy donations. IGG has also applied for specific grants and sought sponsorship for programme and capital related projects. Regions and Units also undertake fundraising activities, sometimes for specific capital projects or for other local charities or for their own programme costs. National Committees organising large scale events e.g. international camps, also conduct fundraising and seek sponsorship from our friends and partners.

Our fundraising strategy is built around positive relationships and depend on our members’ ability to share the value of their involvement in the organisation and tell the story of the benefits of our programme.

As a charity, Irish Girl Guides is required to provide financial information to the public. In line with good practice, analysis of funding income streams is provided annually in the Annual Report and Financial Statements of the organisation available in the Governance section on the website. Reporting on any funds received and maintaining records is a shared responsibility between staff and volunteers and those involved must be aware of their responsibility given IGG’s status as a registered charity. Donors are acknowledged on the website, in our annual accounts and in publications if desired and their logos are used where appropriate.

In September 2017, the Charities Regulator issued Guidelines for Charitable Organisations on Fundraising from the Public and IGG’s Board of Directors (Executive Committee) has adopted those and is committed to complying with them.

As per our Constitution, securing funding for the organisation is the responsibility of the Board of Directors (Executive Committee) who administer all income received, on the recommendation of the Finance and Audit Committee.

Irish Girl Guides is a not-for-profit charitable organisation and all funding is to enable the organisation to fulfil its mission and objectives.

In 2023-26, these needs, in no particular order, are as follows:

● General operational costs of the organisation at a national and regional level

● Programme specific supports

● Completion/Phase 3 of the National Training Centre

● The next International Camp ‘Orbit’ in 2025

● IGG Regions, properties and Units also have their own fundraising needs.

In recent years, IGG has entered a number of partnerships with other organisations and donors. Each one has a set agreement in terms of activity, funding, responsibilities and marketing/PR. Building long-term relationships with partners has been a key focus for the Board and staff and a great way to align corporate social responsibility and fulfil the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals through cross-sectoral partnerships.

IGG also facilitates volunteers or interested members of the public who can avail of funding through their employers for hours volunteered. This includes a number of multinational and global companies.
