Skills Gained in the Irish Girl Guides

When your daughter becomes a member of Irish Girl Guides she is joining a group of girls of her own age and will be led by our trained and dedicated volunteer Leaders. The benefits of being a member of the largest organisation in the world for girls and women are wide and varied. Girl Guiding offers a chance to explore interests, develop confidence, reach her potential, travel internationally and follow her dreams, all while having fun.

Girls and women can gain qualifications within the Irish Girl Guides and can build great friendships with like-minded community-oriented people. Our members develop good self-esteem and learn resilience in a world full of challenges by overcoming their fears, supporting others, learning skills and participating in events with other people.

Girl Guides offers excellent value for money as an after-school activity. Often, however, we find that what starts as an after-school activity, grows into a way of living and a positive way to approach life’s adventures. Along your daughter’s journey, we will endeavour to support and encourage her to develop to her full potential as a responsible citizen of the world.

As an organisation across every county in Ireland, Irish Girl Guides is an asset to society empowering girls and women to speak out for the injustices they see and experience, and to seek a more equal world. Members of IGG bring their skills and talents to bear in all aspects of their lives. Our Guide Skills = Life Skills Personal Checker highlights the types of transferable skills girls and women can gain by being a member of the Irish Girl Guides.

Transferable Life Skills for Members

Skills are things you can do well because you have practiced them or you have a natural ability. The skills we gain from Girl Guides are skills for life – skills that you can transfer to other aspects of your life – at home, in your community, with your network of people and in your workplace. This Personal Checker will help you identify which of the following ‘8 Key Transferable Skills’ you have gained while in the Irish Girl Guides. These skills are sought-after in many work situations and society in general needs more citizens to have these skills to develop a more just and equitable world. You can also use this Checker to help identify the skills you need to work on.

This short fun video demonstrates the types of transferable life skills our members gain through our programme and activities.
